Hi just wondering about size and setup of a quarentine tank? Is this a totally seperate system or does it tie into your existing system? Also whats the best way to set one of these up and how big should it be?

I would go with a 20-29 gal range. Bigger if you were getting a bigger fish. It needs to be a stand alone system. Go with bare bottom, HOB filter and a heater. Add some PVC piping for the fish to hide.

Big thumbs up for the bare bottom and stand alone!I have 2 QT that I use.One for new arrivals (mainly for evaluation) and a secondary that doesn't get set up until something is sick.I personally prefer to use the hospital tank until the stock gets better then take it all apart and clean it.Getting rid of any copper that might remain if you used that med.Also change out filter media as well.

Here are some good threads about QT set ups;
Quarantine setups
How is your current quarantine tank set up?

15g+, completely separate from your display tank even separate nets, feeding utensils, water change buckets, hoses/siphons, the whole thing. Bare bottom, PVC fittings for hiding places, no live rock or any rock you want to keep because if a fish dies or is medicated you cannot reuse that rock (unless you bleach it out and use bleach on it), hang on back filters work just great for QT (I like the Aquaclear filters because they have nice little sponges you can keep in your DT sump, and you can choose whether or not to run carbon or other media in the filter, and they are relatively cheap.), will need a heater as well.
