Happy Friday everyone. Hope you are all staying healthy! Speaking of health. New to the hobby, and in the midst of starting I quickly realized I need a Quarentine Tank STAT! I already have 4 fish (that didn't quarentine) and immediately learned about this part of the hobby, and am now (4 months in) realize this is REALLY important. Can't take back the past, but I can certainly help the future out.

That being said...I'm aware of things to put in the tank, but struggling with the "how to treat" as you all know Canada has messed everything up for us in terms of medicating.

1. Hyposalinity treatment??
2. Any Canadians on here, what do you do when you need to medicate?
3. I've ordered some Seachem Metroplex on Ebay lol see what happens with that.
4. Treating Ich (is it Ich or Ick lol)

What's a SIMPLE quarantine protocol that is Canadian friendly as we don't have same benefits as other countries.

These are some products still listed on Canadian Amazon:

1. Kordon Rid Ich Plus
2. Nox- Ich
3. API Melafix

Thanks for putting up with this Newbie!!

Personally when I do start getting fish for my setup I will be going with the Hybrid TTM method using Hydrogen peroxide dips in between transfers. I will attempt to get whatever medications I can for other issues but if ich and velvet are present that will be how I tackle those issues...

Thanks for that. Wow. A lot of work goes into that method.

I personally just did observational QT for few months with a freshwater dip to check for flukes. If you identify an issue it might be worth reaching out to a local club or some of your local LFS, even though they can't order it now some stores have some "reserves". TTM as mentioned above is probably the most effective option for us up here now. Personally for my nano I just went invert only so I didn't have to worry about such things ;Hilarious

I think when you take a step back and look at all methods of QT they are ALL labour intensive in some way or another... I should have started with the fact I will be doing an observational period before starting any treatment atall. Personally I'm not a fan of prophylactic treatments with no symptoms.

I suppose it is all labor intensive TRUE. If I do use chemicals I like to have instructions, which, professionally made items have. However, with that not an option, makes it more of a headache. Do you keep your quarantine tank running all the time?

Some do, some don't. I have the room to have one set up and I won't have one permanently setup, however, I will make sure I have the means to have one setup quickly if needed. Extra bioblocks in my systems sump for biological filtration and extra salt water for my AWC means I can setup a QT very quickly when needed.
