So the tank has been up for about 8 weeks now, or a little bit more. My wife and I are debating about a QT tank. I know this is a touchy subject and each reefer has their own approach. I basically have everything I need to setup a QT with no additional cost to me with the exception of some type of light.

In the past I have used safety stop with a great deal of success.

I have also just dripped and dumped with not ill effects.

I guess I am at this cross road because with this tank, (it is not my first or third for that matter) I dont mind taking my time.

I just used Dr. Reef and loved the quality of service and fish that I received and I did not mind the wait or the additional cost.

So the issue here is I know me and when I go to the fish store (I use one local LFS that I trust) I will buy something if I like it. Also I want about 6 or so Anthias of some sort which I cant get QTed from Dr. Reef. Which means they will have to be QTed.

The QT setup that I have in mind is just some PVC tubes for hiding, and a black home depot square bin with an airstone and a small pump for circulation with a simple light, and heater. I can use water from my tank and just do a 30 gallon water change, and I could even throw one of my rocks in there for the established bacteria (If I do that it will never see the display again.)

I would like to hear about some of the setups and processes that people have used with success and failure, along with how long they keep fish in QT.

Thanks in advance.

Yes if you already have the means I 100% recommend it. Don’t make the mistake of accidentally introducing a fish disease into your tank and risking everything. Even if you just monitor the fish and don’t ever treat it’s better safe than sorry.
