Diwn diving with my kids in FLA this week; seeing lots of rock beauty and queen angels. Anyone kept the latter with success in their reef? Compatibility with my exiting emperor? Thx.

Interested in hearing peoples experience. From observing them in the wild I kind of expect them to be pretty aggressive. Not Titan trigger aggressive but I watched one run off a French Angel twice his size.

The Rock Beauty has always intrigued me more but only because it's mature size is compatible with my tank where the Queen isn't. No doubt though the Queen Angel is the prettiest fish in the western Atlantic.

I have a Queen, Emperor, and Rock Beauty in a generally FOWLR tank. There’s one lobo in there and one Acro. I will add more coral but I’m limited on light in that system for the time being. None of them pay attention to the few corals that are in there. If I move the lobo to expose its bottom surface they’ll eat the sponges on the underside but never move to the lobo tissue.

The emperor and queen get along great. Never pay any attention to each other. I expected some trouble between the queen and the rock beauty but there’s none. I’ve had those fish for about three years and they’ve been in the same tank together for about 1-2 years.

The Rock Beauty was a Diver's Den fish so he was easy as could be. He eats pellets, mysis, brine, blackworms, mega marine, and nori.

Just wondering how many gallons?

It's a 300. I was expecting some compatibility issues and the 300 was supposed to be temporary but everything has gone really well for the year or two that the system has been running.

You have gotten lucky. My Queen Angel wanted nothing to do with a Emperor Angel I put in there. Wouldn’t let it eat, bullied it and it starved to death.

I think I have talked myself out of the queen .....

Beautys are very diffucult to feed, they need certain sponges to eat.

I’ve always wanted to try a queen or emperor in reef also but just too nervous to kill the trigger! Beautiful fish!!

How about a rock beauty? Are you considering one?

I am, yes. Had one for many years and it was mostly well behaved. Keeping an eye out for one on DD. They seem to be there pretty regularly.

KP Aquatics is a great place also for small rock beauties , they are out of stock at the moment but I am sure they can get you one.

No need, DD actually had a small one today ...... emphasis on 'had'!

Are one of these 3 “safer” in a Reef than the other or is all just hit or miss

I think the general view is that the Caribbean Angels are riskier ..... that's why i asked if anyone was keeping a queen. Other than the rock beauty, they also all get large. Whether is fish is safe or not depends on a number of factors, including the tolerance of the reefer.

Haha you are definitely right!!! I have a 220 Packed our mixed reef and I’ve ALWAYS wanted to try an emperor or queen and just kinda live or die with what it eats or not, and then I always end up backing out [emoji23][emoji23][emoji85][emoji85]
