Hi everyone,

So my 3 year old wants a fish tank like his older Brother and Sister. Brother has a 28 JBJ and Daughter has a 10 gallon glow fish tank.

The question I have is can I use a Petco 10 gallon tank with a HOB filter and separate HOB skimmer for a Long term saltwater solution? I have used it as my hospital tank in the past for short term needs.

This would be a long term home for 2-3 fish only tank. No coral.

Your thoughts and criticism are greatly appreciated.

Umm....it's possible but not easy but if your willing to keep a close eye on it and do good sized water changes (relative to tank size of course) weekly.

I think a 3 year old really wouldn't be able to tell sw vs fw Or if he's a really bright one who knows all the fish as well...talked into into something like a betta tank with...maybe some dwarf africa frogs kinda set up(need to cover that filter with foam with these frogs)

Exactly what my 6 year has and he's pretty good about taking care of the tank feeds flake every few days and asks for the blood worms bugs me to test the water and helps with the water changes.
Also thinkin about when this same kid was around 2-3 years old feed my DT 4 BBQ chicken wings cause the fish looked hungry...(didnt tell mommy...crashed tank)
cracked opened the canister filter(so it could still suck) and emptied a 30 gal in mins in the living room...
Wanted to get a picture of the fish and stuck my DSL camera INTO the tank(ya the one I needed for work) Told me scuba mens cameras can do it....

but then my kids were all handfuls when little into everything...

Lol! This is amazing, especially looking from the outside in.

My 3 year old lives at the fish store with me, I forgot to mention daddy has a 120 reef tank. So he wants a couple blue/green chromies. Cheap and easy enough to replace if they die.

Im also considering buying a 20 gallon at the upcoming Petco sale, drilling it and uses the 10 as a dump.

Why is this hobby so cool and so expensive at the same time?!?!?

Then the answer is...yes a ten gal tank is possible. See all the nano tanks.......but sorry no I dont think a 3 year old should be responsible for it.

I agree... Daddy cleans all the tanks in our house already. ;-)
