I have a 110 gallon non drilled tank. What is my best option for filtration. I have a fluval fx5 canister filter. Would this work for just a fish and live rock tank? What are my filtration options without it being drilled and no risk of flooding? I don't think drilling it is an option because I don't know if it is tempered glass or not. the dimensions are 48 length 24 width and 30 tall. It has 1/2" thick glass also.

I had my 120 drilled. I don't believe the 110 is tempered. If you can do a hang on overflow to a
Sump it would be a lot better
Than a canister!!!! Plus it would give you space to out an injured or sick specimen without risking being picked on. Canisters unless they are cleaned religiously are nitrate traps.

I use a CPR overflow with a Maxi jet instead of aqua lifter pump and works amazing. Just periodically clean maxi jet. Running on a 90 gallon for 6 years no issues. I started with an fx5 and hated cleaning it! Sump is the way to go.

You could get away using the Canister Filter, if using an Overflow box makes you weary. Just make sure to keep the filter clean.
I myself use the CPR Overflow with a Aqualifter Pump. I'v enot run into any issues with mine. But I test mine once a week.

Hate to burst your bubble, but a 48"w x 24"w x 30"t is a 150 gallon tank. Now back to your question. I also use a CPR overflow on one of my tanks and never had a problem. If you set your sump up correctly you can make it fail safe.

How long has your tank been setup? How many aqua lifters have you bought? Aqua lifter just doesn't hold up for me. I went thru 3 of them in 1yr.

I'm using two aqualifters, one tops off with kalk ,for over a year never a problem with either one.

The CPR overflow box looks nice thanks for the advice. Any idea on what size I would need and also what size pump I would need to return? Also what size sump would I need and are there preventive measures to take to keep from overflow or if power goes out and syphon breaks my pump would cut off to keep from my pump burning up because of all water already has been pumped out? I know these are probably stupid questions but I am new and really excited to get started and I like the tank I have so that would save me a lot of money from having to buy a new tank that is drilled.

Been running the same lifter now for a few years. Gotta take em apart now and then and clean out the diaphragm. Mine still holding up.

I would use something like a mag 9 return and a 40g breeder for the sump. With a hang on you don't necessarily have a siphon issue unless installed low. Or drill a hole in the tube going over the tank at the level where the water needs to break the siphon.
