i have an 80 gallon deep blue frag tank that i was hopeing to set up this week.
was not really wanting to go through the whole cycle and get it to were i stick corals in within the a few days later.
so my question is. what is your opinions on bio-spira? and if i use that anything i should use as an additive for the process of it?
thank you for your time

Let it cycle Thats the only true way to stability you can get NTS new tank syndrome and crash really fast. I would hate to see a bunch of corals perish even with a additive such as bio-spira. Take your time it will pay out in the long run. Even though you add bio-spira you are still going to go through some swings till it is up all the way. if you do decide to do it the way you want to I would also use Stability by seachem. And it is also really easy to overload a new tank since al the bacteria is not there no matter how much additives you use since there is no substitute for live animals producing needed bacteria.

I agree. I used Dr. Tim's One and Only (same basic thing) and while the tank truly was cycled it really was not ready as a coral tank. I think it is great to get a Q-tank or a FOWLR started, or even shorten the cycle for a reef, but in my experience free ammonia was gone in a day, total ammonia registered for a couple weeks or more, indicating to my uneducated mind that a little more maturation was necessary.

I am starting a 10g FOWLR in my office, and plan on using it, but in my 60 mixed, it took a couple months before I could keep anything other than fish and shrooms.
