Earlier today I came across something that brought up a question. Right now I have some chaeto that I have in my tank, because at this time I don't have a sump or refugium hooked up to my system I have my chaeto hanging on the side of the tank in a mesh breeders net. Got plenty of light using a goose neck desk lamp with a cfb shining over the chaeto along with the light from my t8 fixture. I have the chaeto hanging along the back side of the tank and it gets some flow from the powerhead, but not enough to make it tumble (which is something that I read that you want chaeto to do). In another thread I had read that you can do this manually every once in awhile and would be fine. What I am wondering is how often should I turn my chaeto? Once a week, couple times a week? Right now it is doing good and has grown since I had gotten it, just want to try to keep things going well. Also this is a temporary solution, looking into and thinking about possibly adding a sump, if I don't go that route than at least doing a refugium of some sort. Thanks.

I turn/roll mine when I think about it. I may do it 3-4 days in a row and then not do it for a week or two. I have only heard about the algae tumbler I have never actually seen one. I think you'll be just fine storing it up every few days/week.

I would go refugium I am running one on all my systems and wouldn't run one without it. just put a 6,500 k light over it and watch it grow if it is done right your water will be nice the majority of the time.

Thanks, other than when I decided to move it from the side to the back of the tank haven't touched it since I had gotten it. Will start rolling it when I remember to do so.

An algae scrubbee is a much more effective method and there are designs to fit all your needs. But as far as chaeto goes o used to toss a 5g bucket full everymonth away and I never turnes mine just maybe if it gets thick spread it out to give room for light and growth all around and through it. But I didn't even do that I just let it fill sump.

If I do decide to add a sump my plan is to set it up with a refugium. Just needing to do some more research in deciding what I want to do. I had also thought about doing a hob refugium but not sure if it would fit on my rim, the rim is a bit wide and to make my hob skimmer fit I had to file down some of the edge to make it work. At that time is was okay since I did not have anything in the tank. But with having the tank up and running now filing the rim is not exactly an option. Could also always just do the refugium and set it up underneath the tank, but I figure if I go that way should research more on different sump options.
