Planning to buy a second hand aquarium but has some chip on the side. Would this be a big issue down the road. It's 36 x 18 x 18 visio tank.

Send more pics!! My tank (125) 6 foot long has chips in the side glass as well. Don’t think it’s as bad in one spot but I have many spots with chips. I also had to seal it before using and no leaks. If there’s an issue with it, it will leak but otherwise it should be fine. Depend on how far left and right the crack/chip is. Not ideal ofc but here’s mine for reference. The last image being probably the worst.

yeah that’s pretty rough if I’m being honest. But a good thing to do, ie af Yee r I sealed my tank, took it around back filled it up with water and give it a couple hours, maybe a single hour or less to see if it leaks. Watch that one spot mainly. If not you’re probably safe. Otherwise by the looks of it, I think it’ll be okay but I’m not there I can’t see it yk. Doesn’t seem to crack down the whole thing or whatever. Not entirely sure because it is rimless the rim provides extra structure so the glass even if the seal broke or leaked would retain its shape and not crumble under pressure. The rimless that seal is all that’s really keeping the panels together. I’d test it with a fill-up outside and see what you think :)

I would not risk it. You can consult with an auto glass repair shop and see if they can pressure repair it as they do with chips on auto glass

Doesn't look good to me. Fracture looks to be halfway into the silicone.

There is almost no stress on the glass/silicon that high up near the top. I cannot imagine it would let go of the entire panel, but it might start to leak on you. Would be a different story if it was near the bottom. There is a very high probability it would be fine, but each person has to consider how much risk they are willing to take.

If you do not care about appearances, you could trim back the silicon on the inside and silicone in a 3" wide strip of 1/4" plate behind the cracked area as a brace and it would be very strong. I have done similar things on much larger tanks with chipped edges. May not be worth it for a small tank like that. You should get a really low price on it for that kind of damage.
