Hey there

i got 2 little Chromish fish today to help the cycle in my tank

my water is all good levels etc just a little low on the PH levels but everything else is fine (had water tested) by myself and a expert

let them float for 10mins then added some of my water to their bag and floated for an addtional 5mins, the stripped chromish swam around for a good bit but the green chroish went straight into hiding, is this normal? now the other is hiding as well lol

in the save system i built with the live rock, they do seem active just seem scared? maybe itd get a wwhile to get use to the new tank and basically the new REEF lol?

thanks in advanced

It is definitely normal for them to be hiding. I have a fish I bought 2 weeks ago and have yet to see him leave his crevasse lol, so give it time. Some cone around sooner then others. And it would guess they are a bit shocked as well because if such a short acclimation time. I don't know if you plan on keeping the chromis after your cycle (most people don't if they can catch them) but I would definitely read up on drip acclimating for any future inhabitants. I like to drip everything, even snails and hermits haha:)

Why cycle with fish when you can do it faster with pure ammonia

No Look at reef cleaners way to acclimate they are not and if you do it any other way they won't guarantee it

The hiding is perfectly normal for chromis that have just been added. They will get bolder and bolder.

There are quite a few methods for acclimation. The method used by the OP will suffice. I strongly recommend keeping acclimation of fish to less than 30minutes, preferably around 20, as ammonia build up causes more harm than any benefits of a longer acclimation.

Snails, crabs, and serpent stars don't need much of an acclimation. Shrimp, starfish, and nudibranchs benefit from a longer acclimation.

They say their only temp sensitive not gravity and works for me

you use inverts to cycle?

And yes they actually came out earlier today and swam around for a bit but if i make a move near the tank they hide lol

i also fed them some food but they never came to get it so hope they can find it at the bottom!

also theyre actually coming out right now!

can i ask any of you who knows a question, is this green stuff good or should i remove it? im guessing its algae building up? i use quick cycle liquid to help cycle the tank as well as the fish, and you can just see it plus the glass is starting to get green stuff too

also my fish are out together! i got a pair so one wouldnt be alone lol

let me know guys n girls! im a noob at all this and ive done quite a bit of research and i wanna play it safe

my PH levels are at neutral once theyre higher i can add other additions

(im going with a clownfish reef tank)

so what about snowflake eels and clowns? do what is their acclimate time?

i done the chromish fish at 10-15mins in a bag floating then an addtional 5mins with some of my water in the bag, then let them out and they just about went into hiding, done a small water change before adding them as well (earlier on in the day!) got the fish that evening after we got the water tested.. im guessing i wanna put clowns or a snowflake eel in by this week, but not sure id rather go with 2 cownfish first after the chromish fish and let them get use to the tank then add a few anemones, anyone know any specific anemones we need that will be good for clownfish?

I base my acclimation on parameters. If fish come from 1.020 to my dt witch is 1.026 , i drip for 2 hours. Every .003 is basically an hour. All inverts no matter what snails hermits will die if you do not drip them. Corals i float the bag and put in (as i keep my alk aroind 9.5 10 witch most petstores keep theirs)

awesome dude, what exactly is dripping letting them float in the bag? before adding, ??

Well basically the whole point is matching the temp and salinity to the water in the display. You can drip water from an airline hose into the bag, or you can float the bag and add cups a water from time to time.. i acually run my qt 1.015 so it takes quite a while for them to regulate their internal sg when switching them to the display. But it really comes down to the majority of fish that go straight into your tank will hide for a little while untill they recognize you (feeding, being friendly ect)

sweet man, thank ya, yeah i added little bits of water to the baggy, i like the dripping method it sounds good and i have hoses i can do this with from a bubbler i removed from the tank, once i get my clowns ill do this with them possibly because i want my fish to thrive not float!
