When you clean your sandbed, either by using a suction device or stirring it up, are you concerned about life forms such as crabs etc being killed or damaged? How do you think this impacts your CUC.

I don't clean my sand bed. I let my cuc do everything. I have crabs, hermits, snails of different varieties, cucumbers, I leave my spaghetti worms, and my bristle worms alone.

I only agitated my sand when the tank was young and algae was growing on it. Now a diamond goby and a sand sifting star fish are enough to keep it clean. The goby can literally move pounds of sand per day and can reach areas that I can't. I don't see anything wrong with gently stirring the areas you can reach safely.
