Can corals of the same species touch/be close together or will they still sting and kill eachother? I.E can I put war corals corals together or do they still need space?

Sometimes two corals next to each other will be fine, but with something like a favia and especially when it is called a war coral i wouldn't put them near each other unless you are ready to move one of them.

Some can and some can't. All the acans I have can be put next to each other. I have scars of a mummy eye chalice being an inch and a half away from an Acan. I lost 4 heads of 30 headed Acan. I've had some war corals good next to each other, some not so good. Sometimes it's trial and error.

+1. I lost a favia when I did this. :(

It's Just part of nature for corals to compete for space. Some corals will do fine touching each other and others do not. It is best to have some space between corals to be on the safe side.

Definitely no set answer. Sometimes corals run into each other and stop. Sometimes they grow right next to each other and then grow around each other without contact. Sometimes one over takes the other.

Hydnophora and Galaxea always seem to win any battle.
