Hello everyone,
Something that we've heard time and time again, is before adding coral your tank needs to be established. I've seen many people recommend 9+ months of a coral less tank just to make sure things "stabilize".
I'm confused as to how I can reconcile that principle with setting up a coral quarantine system. I just want to set up a simple 20 gallon with frag racks - do I need to wait until that quarantine system gets "established"? Or can I just throw on a hob filter and rely on water changes... I've heard adding too much bio filter (rocks/sand) to quarantines can be a bad idea (which makes sense to me, more locations/real estate for bad stuff to colonize).
So, can I just set up a 20G coral quarantine in one day, and throw coral in there? If that is the case, why are we waiting so long for our tanks to cycle, for coral.
Thanks everyone!
Charlie
