hi everyone,
so i am new to the hobby and have a fluval m60. i got the tank used so pre cycled and about 1.5 year old and i have owned it for just under a month. it doesnt have much rock in it so i bought some dead live rock to add to it. i looked up about curing it and read if i added it without curing it, it would create ammonia, nitrite etc and kill my livestock? when i looked up about curing it i seen lots of people put the rock in a bucket of saltwater thats circulating with a heater for a few weeks. what i thought this was doing was removing anything dead on the rock and then letting the good bacteria grow again but now i think that i have gotton curing and cycling the rock mixed up? i have just seen that you can put the rock in a bleach rodi mix for a week and then rodi and de chlorinator mix for a bit. i think this removes anything dead on the rock which would make it dry rock? what im wondering though is if i bleached the rock would that mean that after getting the bleach off it i could just put it right in the tank without any chances of ammonia spikes or would i need to still put it in a bucket with saltwater and a heater and circulation pump?

sorry if i have used any of the wrong terms.
thanks for reading

If you bleach the rocks and kill off any decaying material(making dry dead rock), you can most certainly put it in the tank without any expectations of a cycle.

if it's just dry rock with a bunch of dirt and "stuff" on it, you'll most certainly want to "cure" it before adding to the tank, as any material left on the rock will decay adding ammonia to the tank.
