Question about filling up protein skimmer!

I need to get a dead fish out of my protein skimmer. Im gonna need to dump the water. Should i refill it with fresh water? Or fill it with water that matches salinity of my tank?

Turn you return pump off and dump it into your sump. Then after you get the fish out, just put it back into the sump slowly immersing it. It will fill up.

No sump. It’s a HOB skimmer.

Pour into the tank remove dead fish. Fill back up so it will prime. No reason to throw water away
