So my recently acquired blue hippo has come down with ich. I am making water right now to get the QT tank up and running. My question is about a filter for it. What should I use? Will something like this work for a qt tank? AquaTech 20-40 Aquarium Power Filter - Walmart.com Do I need something else? Also does anyone around here sell cupramine? Is that the best thing to treat him with?

Yes it will work, although it's best to remove any filtration it has and replace with live rock rubble or filter floss that is already seeded (in sump or DT for many weeks). If not, you could add new floss and rubble and use stability by seachem but keep a very close eye on your parameters as there with be very little bacteria to deal with waste.

you can use those to filter the water just fine. but when done with QT, toss the cartridges i the trash. keep one in your sump so that it seeds with bacteria.

The carbon in the filter cartridges will remove medications from the water though.
