I have 2 Maxspect 130 Gyres running Vertically. early in the day time starting at 7 a.m they run Pulse mode 75% in the evening 9:00pm they ramp down to 55% steady flow The idea for this was to mimic the natural environment of the ocean during the morning and night. The flow if still Constant and there's never any dead spots but not as powerful during the night. is this bad for SPS?do they need a constant high flow 24/7? or would it be OK to give them a small break during the evening I also am running a Reef Octopus 5000 as a return. lots of flow!
Thanks

Bumping and tagging along.

It sound like your totally dead on the right track. Personally I think your method is genius as it helps the circadian rhythm were emulating with lighting.

I run the biggest tunze wave box on a 108 gallon at full power 24/7 also 4 times a day for an hour I have 2 tunze powerheads that turn on just to stir up poop. Look at it this way does the ocean stop blowing in waves? If you have ever been diving during the day and at night you will see that the current is still very strong. Sometimes it feels stronger at night. Quick video of the tank.

I agree. I live in Minnesota so not a native of the ocean, but I have been there diving both during the day and night and the current does not slow down at night IMO. I keep my wavemakers on all the time and have another pump in else mode to give some randomness. My coral all seem to be very happy day or night and have great PE.

Hum..:.. good to know..Thanks!!
Had it in my mind that Weather/wind probably is the biggest benefactor to ocean currents and the fact that wind is stronger in the daytime.. I will leave gyres on pulse 24/7 power 75%

I acually was stuck on the same topic for a while so now i just use the alternate gyre mode for every 2 minutes, otherwise my corals would most likely melt off their skeleton
