I’m currently in the works of having Custom Aquariums build my 72x28x30 tank - 3/4” glass

I’m building this tank into the wall on a corner.

Custom Aquariums requires foam under their tanks even though they are rimmed.

For those that used foam under their large tanks, can the tank slide on the foam or will the foam get destroyed?

I will have only a couple inches above the tank to slide the tank onto the stand. We can’t just lift the tank up and over onto the foam.

See picture.

Depends on the foam. They may require a specific foam. Most time if it is rimmed foam is not used, but I used it on my 180 and it worked out perfect. I used foam board from Lowe’s. It will slide a bit, but try to lift it a bit to lighten it up, with full weight it will probable push the foam.

You can try something like wax paper between the rim and foam. That should reduce the resistance, it’s not going to affect anything and it’s wax so good all around.

AGE doesn’t suggest foam and I have a similar size tank, but in the past I’ve just used 3/4 rigid foam from Home Depot.. I also have an corner in wall.

Thanks for the picture. Your setup looks great!

How difficult was it to get the tank into the wall?

Do you remember if you were able to slide the tank on top of the rigid foam with your other tank?

Foam under a rimmed tank has to be dense/rigid otherwise it will compress (not an issue when the entire tank bottom sits flat on the foam). I’ve slid a rimmed tank over the dense pink stuff from places like HD without tearing it up. You just have to be careful.

I build the wall around the tank, but I have a 4 panel slider in the fish room in case I need to get it out.
