Question regarding what this could be. My trigger has some white stringy/spiky spots by gills and his trigger. I had a blue line that passed in July and had one similar spot that I never saw again. Had it when I got him, now, the clown has similar spots protruding out of his natural white dots. Any input on what to treat with?

Possibly flukes or Piscicolidae worms. Fish parasites. Piscicolidae are not very common but I've heard Formalin works. @Jay Hemdal

That isn't really a sign of anything specific. Could be flukes, could be bacterial. There are some rarer issues like an internal fungus disease. It could also just be excess mucus due to some irritation.

Past history of the fish would be important to know. Here is a link to some of the various types of information that we need:

Most important would be - how long have you had the fish, what has it been treated with, any other symptoms?

I’ve had him for over a year and haven’t treated him yet.

No other strange behavior. Seems pretty normal. My Niger had a very small white bump that looks more like a little ball on his chin.
At this point, I don’t see anything super contagious that requires immediate treatment.
I do wonder - it’s color isn’t really sharp and it seems a bit smaller than I would expect for a year old clown trigger. What have you been feeding it?
