I set my 29g tank up about a month ago. And recently have seem some hair Algae starting small in spots. I thought and possibly might still be part of the cycle. I regularly do weekly 6gal water changes and my nitrates and nitrites are at Zero and i was checking phosphate and forgot about the test as I walked out. My filtration is a HOB aqua clear 50 modified with matrix substrate and a bag of purigen and also a foam filter. I have 5 nassarius and also 5ish small crabs. Im gonna get a turbo snail. I keep the tank at 80 and do about 8-12hr light cycle . All water is ro made. There are no out door lights surrounding it. So dunno what else to do. I'm thinking can reduce the lights but hate depriving the corals. Any answers or suggestions are welcomed.

Cutting down the lights just a couple hours a day won't do anything for you. If its HA, then your gonna have to check your Phosphates and find out whats up there. Thats gotta be the culprit, if everything else in in line.
Although, Im hoping its not Bryopsis.

No doesn't look like bryopis more flowy. My previous weeks tests (i do a water change on Wednesdays and then do my tests on Thursday and record data) showed my phos dropping and last week was at 0.

Phos are 0, your Nitrates are 0 also. But we have excess nutrients in the tank if its HA. But from where?

More then likely part of new tank syndrome just be patient it will go away on its own you could throw a bag of chemi pure elite in your filter that will take care of your phosphate issue

Some times when you test for phosphates you will get a inaccurate reading because the algae is consuming it. In order to have these nuisance algaes your nutrient level is a bit high. Also I would lower temp temp 76-78. Continue your water changes rinse your frozen food and feed sparingly.

That's what it looks like. Now I never have heard of rinsing your frozen food. I feed my tank frozen Sallys brine shrimp Have always. If there is something new i need to figure out. Gonna check out that Chem pure elite

I can't tell anything from that pic? And yes most frozen food contain phosphates. When you do your water changes are you vacuuming your sand bed? Are you using ro water? Also with a hob filter pads and sponges should be removed or cleaned very often. Better to use for your carbon ,phosguard etc in your hob filter. You also need to be using a skimmer as well.

Yeh with the hob its only got the one sponge as the junk filter and that's the only one. Yes all water that goes in is ro water. I have a skimmer that I need to stick in it but hate putting other tank stuff in it. Some of the coral fragsni got were a little algae covered and was hoping it would get eaten or die, dunno if that could add? I'm gonna order some Chem pure elite tonight also and clean that skimmer I got some where. Also going to do some research on better frozen food. Any suggestions?

Yea, it's best to rinse frozen food in ro water first, they have phosphates they release.
