I have a 70g Oceanic Tech Tank ( 3ft wide 2ft tall & 18” deep) I’ve been running a 4 bulb T5 fixture with ATI bulbs for years, but I want to upgrade to LED - the tank has an unusual rimmed top that has 2 circular cutouts about 9” away from each edge on the back. These openings would be an ideal place to put the mounting arms for 2 lights such as Hydra 32’s or XR15’s, but there’s a problem....
My problem is that the typical mounting arm brackets that attach to the tank for both AI/Ecotech are too large to fit these openings. Suspending the lights is not an option....and I also don’t prefer to do the models with crossbars.
However, I could easily mount Three Hydra 16’s in the tank by adding an extra light at the center of the overflow. The mounting arm brackets for the Hydra 16 are very thin and would easily fit into each spot and would likely provide more than enough PAR across the tank.
My tank is SPS dominant....what do y’all think? Would the three Hydra 16’s work in my situation?
