So to give all some background. I have a 65 gallon tank. It is 5 weeks old. Using RODI water. Canister filter. Dry rock with some live rock to seed the tank. Live sand. HOB protein skimmer. 2 AI prime HD lights. Water turnover is about 40X with power heads. In the tank is a clean up crew along with domino damsel, devil damsel, clown fish and BTA. All seem to be doing well. End goal is to do a reef tank.

Starting the tank I used red reef starter pack. Right now my levels are as follows PH8.2, Ammonia .25, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20, Calcium 380, Phosphate .25 and KH API test kit takes 11 drops. Still have questions on how to read that test. LOL.

So my questions is not once through the last 5 weeks did I see my Nitrite go above 0. Ammonia and Nitrate both have been measurable but not Nitrite. Am I just lucky or am I going to end up having trouble later on since ammonia is still present but no Nitrite has even been present in the tank to help convert it to Nitrite and then to Nitrate?

Any other pointers would be much appreciated as well since I am fairly new to this.

Thank you in advance to all.

Sometimes the nitrite converts so quickly you don’t see it on the tests. If you have nitrates and your ammonia is going down, the cycle is moving along just fine. Keep us posted!
