Question about lifereef

Hi,

I need a new protein skimmer and found someone selling his lifereef vs2-24 with mag9.5 for $250...price is negotiable. Based on my research in these forums, the only real issue is heat from the pump and its an energy hog...but very reliable. Of course some say they're great and others not.

Is this worth it considering i can get an aquamax c01 at marine depot new (25% off) for $217.00? I have no experience with life reef so i value your opinions based on this price point, Thanks

I used a life reef system for several years. I always had issues with nitrates and dirty water. Every time we would put our hands in the tank (even just to put a frag back in place) it wouldn't pull any skim for several hours. I switched to a reef octopus, and I'm much happier. I get muuuuuuch better skim now.
