Excuse me for asking such a stupid question, but I have been having difficulty figuring out how long to mix my aquarium salt. There seem to be a wide range of opinions ranging from some people mixing for half an hour to 24 hours. I understand that salt will burn the fish and corals in my aquarium if added to soon, so that is my biggest concern. I am going to use Instant Ocean. How long should I mix salt? Is there a specific way (outside of considering time) to know when the salt is safe. Thanks, and sorry again as I know that this question gets discussed all the time!

I've never had issues for doing it about an hour before as long as you really mix it up. I recommend by hand as a pump or powerhead can still result in clumps settling at the bottom of your bucket or tank or whatever you are mixing in

I think safe and fully mixed are two different things. I may self would probably mix io salt for 24 hours about.
some salt do mix quicker. BRS did a video on the times awhile back. Worth searching

Each manufacturer have their own recommendations. Some may just say “till fully dissolved”. Some say use immediately. 1hr-24hr is the average.

1hr if it’s an emergency, mix it really good. 24 hrs if you have time to plan. And like mentioned above, research. Even mixing or holding / storage for to long can be a bad thing depending on salt mix.
