Hi all,

Relatively new to the saltwater hobby. I picked up a 4-pack of Red Sea Trace-Colours ABCD as well as Red Sea Calcium+. The way that the dosage is stated to work is you add 1ml of the Trace-Colours for every 10mls of Calcium+. This was easy to do when my calcium was below 450. Now it's at about 455, and I'm wondering how the Trace-Colours dosages work when I don't need to add calcium. Any help would be appreciated.

If your using the Calcium uptake method then you only dose with calcium uptake, so if no uptake don’t dose any.

The uptake of calcium is in theory linked to the uptake of the coral colours elements as a very basic method

Personally I air on the side of caution with the coral colours so as not to overdose, infact I probably underdose.

Thanks for your reply! I'm always worried that my corals aren't getting enough nutrients but they're all bright and healthy so maybe I'm worrying too much :)

I use the trace color program.

Easiest way for me is to use the BRS calculator.

Input your tank volume. Input your current ca level and then what you are targeting and it will provide you with trace color dosage

For me I dose alk daily and ca weekly.

On Saturdays I dose for my ca to go from 400-425. With the brs calculator I then dose 4ml of ABCD

You can also figure out a daily dose if you like.

It sounds like your calcium fluctuates a lot then? Why is that? I haven't had my calcium levels drop at all. Whenever I do water changes I mix my RO/DI water with Red Sea Coral Pro salt, and use ocean water weekly.

My alk and ca consumption is pretty equal. I dose 30ML per day alk. Could do the same with ca but do that weekly at the moment

Tank consumes .5dkh per day and about 3ppm ca

Depends on your coral load

You may not need to dose trace elements if you are doing weekly water changes.

I use red sea blue bucket
