Question about RO/DI

You will want to run about 5-10 gallons through and toss that out before using it for tank water. Also, I have found with the DI chambers if you tilt them or lay them flat once you get water running through the system it will remove the air that sometimes gets trapped in the system.

Remove the carbon block. Disconnect the line up to the RO membrane from the carbon block and disconnect the DI or remove the cartridge.
With only the sediment filter installed, place the disconnected line up to the RO in the sink or a bucket and open the tap water and run it several minutes to flush out any glues and binders in the sediment filter. Shut the wate roff and install the carbon block, again turn the water on and flush the carbon dust and fines out for several minutes so they don't foul the RO membrane.
Now reconnect the line from the carbon housing to the RO membrane, turn the water on and make 3-5 gallons of RO only water to the drain while monitoring the TDS with your handheld TDS meter. When it hits its slowest reading which should be about 96-98% less than the tap water TDS the membrane is flushed. Turn the water off and install the DI cartridge or connect the DI and make about a gallon of RO/DI wate rto the drain to rinse up the DI resin and yo uare set.

It doesn't really secrew it up but the systematic flushing makes things last longer and perform better. Most vendors don't tell you this unfortunately.
