question about rubber

I need to raise my skimmer about 3/4" so that I can connect the drain on the collection cup. I have some thick rubber washers(new) that would be the right height. Does rubber leach anything into the water?

I've had a rubber band in my tank from holding a toadstool down and the toadstool has grown around it. No notable effects on the tank nor the coral that is growing on it.

Another option, egg crate.

I was going to say egg create as well but he already has the washer. And egg crate is believed to possibly leach phosphates.

I had heard that too, but I have used in the past -- as a live rock shelf -- without issue.

I don't think that the rubber will cause an issue, but I have no idea.

I've used it for frag racks to an never had a problem. My concern would be if the washer would be stable enough.
