Question about siphon vacuum?

I wrote exactly the same thing...sorry, hadn't seen your post. 2 brilliant minds.

You can also submerge the entire siphon and hose, getting all the air out of the hose. Then plug the end of the hose with your thumb and pull it out and down into the bucket, and take your thumb of the end of the hose. That sould start the siphon.

Lol my boyfriend and I had the hardest time. It worked for maybe 20 seconds. We followed the directions completely from aqueon's online how-to video. Impossible. It works a little after my boyfriend sucked through the bottom to get the water flowing (ew) and then I moved it up and down like video said and it still only worked until it got clogged with gravel.

When I tried with freshwater tank, it was a bit more successful, it will make water changes easier I guess. But also again had to suck through bottom to get flow going.

BTW these were both 10g tanks, while the box says up to 5? Can't see how that could cause such issues tho. Luckily it was only like 6 bucks.

That flapper valve always gets stuck. You have be to clean it out each time you use it.
