I want to add a coral that's a strong yellow that's easy and inexpensive. I don't really care about them being fast growers as I can just isolate them on an island like I would green star polyps, and I can keep their sting away from other corals.

But I know they're a part of the zoanthid/palythoa family and wanted to know if yellow polyps also carry those deadly palytoxins.

They definitely seem related to Paly’s, sharing in their Palytoxin. I believe the toxins are only an issue if you’re bothering or fragging the coral though

I was going to try and find a common classification for you, but goodness, coral classification is a mess..

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info

I know this is an old post but many/most zoas and such don't contain much/any palytoxin it seems. It is likely the yellow polyp zoa's are just fine. They are actually a bit different then most zoa's we collect in that they need a bit a zooplankton and are alot more like the kind of zoa's that encrust on sponges and such.

Anywho, this is a interesting read
