I used the same dry sand for my 100 gal build a few years ago. I rinsed the sand and thought it was good but I guess I didn’t rinse it long enough. The cloudiness was driving me nuts and every time the sand was disturbed it would create a serious dust cloud and the tank would be cloudy again.
My solution was to jury-rig a 10-Inch RODI Sediment Pre-filter. Using 3/4 barb fittings, I connected the filter directly to the intake of a pump with the other end plugged up. I hung it in my tank and stirred the sand. Every time the tank cleared up, I would stir the sand again. When the filter got too clogged, I changed the filter and repeated the process again. Finally the tank and sand were clear. I will never use that sand again.
