I'm using Microbacter7 to cycle my new tank. I've been using it for close to a week now and this morning I noticed it's starting to smell a little rancid. I don't smell it in my tank but the smell was coming from the bottle. It didn't smell like that before. Is this normal?

I emailed Brightwell Aquatics to see what they say but I'd love to hear from people who use the product.

I noticed mine started to smell rancid the other day. I'd stop using it as rancid may mean decay. It didn't always smell rancid.

Yeah I guess I probably better not add anymore at least until I hear from the manufacturer.

As in rancid you mean vinegar-like? If so, that is fairly normal.

Lol, I had to go sniff the bottle of Microbacter7 again then sniff a bottle of vinegar. But yes it does smell a little bit like vinegar. So that's normal?

What would cause it to change like that? When I first got the bottle, 2 months ago, it didn't smell.

From my experience that is normal. 9/10 times I have purchased a bottle of MB7 it smells like vinegar. It doesn't smell like decay or anything. They were all within the expiration date.
