Got this paly as Envy Orange and eventually (under 10K) decided it was most likely RPE. However, I got some TRPE in (definitely not the same), and with my switch to 14K, these just keep getting more and more orange and transluscent. Any thoughts on if they might be Orange PE or Envy Orange? TIA

Hard to tell from the pic, but do they have the green mouth and the stripes?

I always heard Vivid's Envy Orange was just a renamed regular RPE. I have never seen one in person so i have no way of validating that.

My EO looks different than my RPE. How long did you had the EO? Maybe it's stressed out to look like that. Give it time, it may get a little darker orange for you.

deffinately not trpe
the center of trpe is black/purple
havent really been keeping up with the names but its nice

Here is a pic of the Envy Orange that I got from OIAB. It was way more orange than any of my RPE morphs. It is in the middle. Unfortuneately it died in a tank mishap after reaching about 6 polyps.

Hey Kevin, they do have the green mouth ~ as for the stripes everyone talks about, I assumed that it was the striping that's evident in the pic? Is the striping on PEs different than that?

This has been in my tank for almost a year now ~ its definitly changing, and I've only had the 14K for about 3 months now, so it may change some more.

Yeah, its definitely not trpe. Thanks.

Thanks all for the input.

I would say that is not Envy Orange. I have 2 frags from CodyLove and they look almost identical to this

Very, very slow grower. I finally have a baby in one of them after about 6 months in my tank.

Interesting Spidey, if that is the same CodyL that I know, this is from him as well. This is now about a year old.

dtpollard, if you're talking the one on the left, I'd say that is pretty dang close to to what I got.

The PE stripes i talk about are the ones you can only see when they are closed up.

AC-Kevin

Hey Kevin, yep; checked the PE striping last night using your TRPE and some PPE for reference. This is definitely a PE

BTW; my HDDpaly already has three new polyps growing on it; Amazing paly!

Here is my not true RPE for ref.

Thanks dtpollard, it's definitely no where close to that.

Certainly not an expert (always leary of replying in a thread asking for one), but I'd say it is what was the Envy Orange. tRPE's (and tGPE's, etc.) have the purple circle around the mouths, which is a break in the oral disc color. EO's were a solid base with no break all the way up to the mouth. IMO, tOPE's would then follow the tRPE and tGPE in the disk coloration -solid to the purple circle around the mouth. With that reasoning, I'd say EO, but others may be calling EO's OPE's. Clear as mud?

; yep, clear as mud! If I followed you correctly, you are saying it should indeed by envy orange, because it lacks the purplish/black center of the true people eaters. However, some are calling envy orange, orange people eaters; which they really are not.

Did I get that right? Thanks gflat ~ wasn't trying to exclude any input with the title, just wanted to get some "experienced" (probably not the right word either) input. Saw somewhere on here a comment that the "zoa experts" are here on reef2reef, but they seem to be kind of "shy" about giving any input to us newcomers. Just an observation.

Glad the Ding Dangs are doing good for you Scopus... I'm with gflat on the "expert" thing though. I deal with at least 8 different morphs of people eaters on a daily basis, but in now way can i or do i consider myself an expert. Can anyone?

I've been in the hobby almost 12 years now and i still learn something new everyday. That is what keeps me interested.

; Oh I hear you Kevin, And like you probably those who have the most experience are smart enough not to consider themselves experts. I guess what I was really looking for were some people that had first hand experience with EO to give me their opinions ~ perhaps I should have been more careful with my title. However, I've found that even those who have the exact same polyp as me disagree, as their's looks different. Which I'm sure is a result of the lighting, etc. in individual tanks.

Since I bought them as Envy Orange, and at least a few people agree that they could be, and they are similar to at least one of the pics on ZoaID, so I guess I shall refer to them. What else can you do ~ not like there is a genetic bank for corals LOL ~ at least not yet.
