I purchased my first coral. A zoa as I love them. Anyhow the first couple of days it was all open and all was good. However it has now been 6 days of it not opening. The water tests are sal. 1.024, ammonia 0, nitrate 20, nitrite 0, calcium 380, phosphate 0, ph 8.2. Temp 78. It is in a 29 gallon biocube with the biocude stock lights. I have attached a photo taken just now before postion. I leave the lights on for 10 hows. There is medium flow from a 425 powerhead. There are no other livestock in the tank. Any help would be appreciated. I have done freshwater for decades and a FOWLR since 2007.

they seem to have the brown growth covering them. not really exactly sure what that is. but have experience this myself i just removed the brown with a soft brush. what did you use for a dip.

I used two little fishes revive dip for 15 minutes. I will try and get the brown off it looks like alge to me.

Wish me luck. I made up a gallon of dip....put the rock in the dip, used a handful of q-tips (softest brush thing I had on hand to use as a "brush"). I then swished it around in the dip and then let it sit for 15 minutes. I then rised it off with salt water from the tank amd then put back in...I hope this works...

The whole piece looked nice when I purchased it for 30 bucls at the lfs...so I also hope that is a good price as they have them from 25 to 50...

Well still no change.so I was thinking. Since I have tested amd all is.fine should I maybe put the piece in my FOWLR tank amd see if it opems after a few days to a week and if it does maybe it is something in the tank or water I cant detect? It is a new tank with live sand and then dry live rock.and a.larger piece of live rock to.seed the tank....I dont know at this point. The.lfs said I could bring it back and put. In his tank to.see.if it opens.amd he gave me.a.couple small zoes (one and two polps each) from his tank sand to.see if they stay open so.also trying.that. he said not to buy amything until.we have this figured out. What do you guys think?
Making me question why I ever wanted to try reefing.....but then I remember my.first step into salt was not easy 10 years ago as well...

He does. All the folks working for him are great and if they are not sure about somethig they get the emploee who does.or the owner. Been his customer now almost 10 years and he is the only LFS in Lafayette, IN
