So this is the second time (i have seen) this have happen to my tank and the first time i freaked out. Basically the tank looks like a shaken snow globe. Very cloudy, white, and low visibility. It only happens when the lights go out. Both times were within a couple hours of the lights going out. I usually dose my tank Reef code A&B, mag, and Vita C around 5-6pm. Lights out around 8pm. So dosing shouldn't have anything to do with it. Also the temps are the same throughout. The first time it happened i though my tank was going to a nuclear blast and i was in real trouble. I went to bed and in the morning everything was fine and crystal clear. Tested the parameters after work and everything was constant like nothing happened.

I have no clue if this happens to anyone else. If this is normal? What is occurring in my tank?

Can anyone lend some help or ideas?

Thanks
Jason

any residue like precip on the rocks etc? could be a spawning event? what are your alk,ca,mag levels?

Alk is around 8
Ca is around 420
Mag is 1400

Yeah there is a little residue. I guess it could be a spawing event but what spawns like that....maybe the GSP

Residue would be from precipitation.

how close together do you dose the A+B?

I give it a good 5 -10 min in between but the reaction is serveral hours later! I have seen the precipitation that occurs between A&B...usually it is gone within seconds...plus i dose in my back chambers.

Hopefully someone smarter then me will chime in, cause I haven't a clue. :)

Spawning would be my guess if this only happened twice. If you always dose the 2part the same way/intervals then you would have precip every time.

And I'm definitely not smarter than Mike....lol

I would bet something is spawning in your tank - especially with the recent full moon.

That would be awesome to see or catch on video :nerd:

Next time it happens ill grab my camera and see what i can capture.

I have been reading a few people (via google) that have expirenced cloudy water from what they believe is spawning of GSP...

Mine is much more cloudy that this though

My guess would be spawning since it is an event that happens within a certain time period. Does your skimmer act up of filter device get clogged? Any effects seen due to the occurrence.

I glanced at the filter this morning and looked normal. Didnt check the skimmer but i will when i get home. As far as effects, Nothing. It's crazy night time cloudy as hell and then next day crystal like nothing happened. Never happens during the day...but i will try to document this the next time i see it.
