Hi all,

So my po4 and nitrates are out of control. Im off to a good start to fixing the issue (i hope). Im selling half of my tangs. I have tangs that out grew my tank and i believe thats why the levels are so high. So far i have one of 4 sold. Im about to get ride of another one sometime this week. I run BRS carbon and GFO. i have a refugium and a good skimmer but even that could not handel the wast in that tank. Would you suggest trying bio pellets? If so what reactor and pellets do you recommend?

I've been running BP's for a few years now with good success. I have a mixed reef 180, although predominantly SPS, and use the RO BR110 with an Eheim compact+ 2000 pump. I started by re-purposing my BRS GFO reactor for the first month, and then bought the RO, and continued the process of adding the remaining BRS pellets over a few weeks to get to the total recommended amount. I would get a reactor that will take the total amount of pellets that are recommended for your system, and not fill it more than half way, with the pump off. As mentioned I used the BRS pellets.

PS I did take the refugium off line as well, since I figured the combination of the pellets and chaeto would be competeing for the same nutrients.

I just installed an RO BR70. Very nice reactor and tumbles the pellets nicely. There are some good examples on youtube.
