Question on flow - when is it too little?

I have a 50G and a very strong return pump. I also have a small pump pushing water against the back of the rockwork and have two bigger ones pointing forward. My tanks is all LPS, zoa and softies. I noticed that if I just have the flow from the return the coral seem much happier. Are there long term issues with having a tank with just the return and a small powerhead moving water? If the coral are happy and the parameters are in check any other issues that build up with lower flow (Phos? NO3?). Thanks.
