Hello all
My question is on your kalkreactor to you run your stirring motor 24/7?or do you run it on a timer so many times a day?
Thanks
Ron

If it’s a kalk stirrer that uses a slow spinning stir bar to mix the kalk solution like the K1 or K2 from Avast Marine, then you run it 24/7. If it’s a kalk reactor that uses a power head to mix the kalk solution like the one from GEO, Precision Marine or MRC, then that goes on a timer. The kalk slurry would destroy the impellers of the small power heads used on kalk reactors if run 24/7.

The Avast is the only one that you can run motor 24/7.. others with motorized stirring like the reef octopus have a recommended duty cycle and you need a timer.

I believe the Deltec KM500 can be run 24/7 as well... That said, after much deliberation as to whether to go with a reactor or a stirrer, I bought a K1 from Avast Marine and am very happy with my decision. I have read that the regular maintenance required to service the small powerhead used on kalk reactors can be a bear and because the kalk slurry can be so harsh, impellers need to be replaced almost annually.
