I have a 180 gallon tank in the final stages. Should have water in it this week.

I currently have a reef tank with a lot of coral, so this tank will be more about the fish. It will have a sargassum trigger fish and emperor angel, and a Stars and Stripes puffer which are noted as non reef safe.

Are there any coral at. Can put in this tank that won’t be eaten? Would they eat torches, hammers, and chalices?

Thanks!

Puffers are known to go after most stony corals, emperor's often go after LPS, soft corals MIGHT survive but I wouldn't bet on it

I think you need to decide if you want fish or corals in that tank as I think most if not all corals will just become expensive food.
You are likely to get a post saying 'I have x fish and it never touches my corals' but that is probably sheer luck not judgement.
I would concentrate on the fish side as you are pretty much spoilt for choice on fish if you don't have corals.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I have a 125 reef, and have been in the planning stage of starting a 135 to 150 gallon FOWLRish tank for a long time.
A few must haves:
Harlequin tusk
Puffer (porcupine maybe)
Zebra eel
Large angel (still debating which)
I'm sure I'll need a bristle tooth tang of some sort for algae control, but I'm afraid that my coral gene will kick in at some point and I'll feel the need to have corals in the tank. I just can't imagine all of that rock with nothing growing on it.
Definitely following along.

Although they are not everybodies cup of tea, look into artificial corals, ive seen some amazing tanks with artificial corals, just google.
