Question on tunze 9004

I got a bio cube 32 with an I tank media basket, next to it I have tunze 9004 skimmer. My question is does this skimmer pull water in from the surface only? If it does the intank media basket is only like half an inch away I don’t think it would make the skimmer efficient. Would a tunze 9001 be better?

It pulls from the surface. As long as the media basket is not folly blocking the intake it should be fine.
