Ok ,got my new 120 tank today, have a couple questions that I know someone out there could help

Old tank 48x20x18(75g) been setup for 1 year 150 lbs rock and 2 inch sandbed lots coral no sps though and lots of fish.

New tank 48x24x24

1.Sand-Can I use my old sand? I really dont wanna buy more but if i have to I have too and not sure if i would have to cycle new live sand or not...

2. Im going to use most of my water from old tank and add new 50 gallons so would i have to cycle it again,I wouldnt think i would since
all my rock is still alive but just want some input from people that made the transfer

also its replacing the old tank in the same spot so I know i got a job to do,anyone have any pointers for me that would be great

Thanks and wish me luck

following this, planning to do the same thing once i can support it!
Well im fixing to do mine like this Thursday or Friday .Im fixing to order 90lbs of sand that i found on ebay ..same sand i bought a year ago,but wanted to get some input first
just gotta start making water..not looking forward to it cause i heard its a job..

Good deal, I did the same upgrade and love the 120. Get new sand, throw the old stuff away. This will save you from problems in the long run. Is the new tank going in the same place as the old? If not get the new sand in the new tank and get your new sw added then do the swap on the weekend, take your time, don't rush! Be sure to do a build thread and show off your progress;)

It is going into the same spot.. So your saying all new sand..but mine is only a year old,but do u think it will stir up to much crap,I still will be able to use all them snails that hide during the day and come out at night only Right?
Oh yeah build thread ive never done it but i should ..Thanks

Yeah, go with new sand. Reusing is like playing Russian roulette. It wont need to cycle, just rinse it well in rodi.

As for the snails, just suck most of "leave1/2" or so" the water out of the 75 but leave the sand. The snails will surface so you can pick them out over a short period of time.

Will do .
