Question questions start up process

So I’m starting to put the water into the tank I was told by a local LFS employee about when I put the water in to my 40 gallon breeder start filling it let it go to sump and then I believe it was shut off the return pump. Can somebody correct me please if I’m wrong???

He said that I should do that to double check the level in the summer so that then I can market can somebody please elaborate

Add salt, then water and then run pumps . Continue to add water until sump starts to fill and stop adding when the pump is fully submersed and no longer sending micro bubbles to the tank.

OK that sounds good but at what point is it that I mark the sump I keep hearing about having to mark the sump to know some kind of level that’s where my confusion starts. Thank you.

Once you have good tank level and sump is covering pump and no bubbles - mark with tape
Once you install a skimmer, you may need to raise or lower level then you can make permanent mark
