Question Regarding Powder Blue Tang

I have a 200g that was exposed to ich about 6 months ago. At the time I didn't have the ability to catch or move every fish out, so I bought a gigantic UV light, and just hoped for the best.

At this point everything has been clear since - knock on wood.

I've introduced new fish (who go through full QT) and nobody has shown any further symptoms.

I understand it is still in the tank, however,

So my question - I was thinking about grabbing a nice, fat powder blue tang from the store. He looks great and is eating everything. I would QT him then toss him in - but - given that ich is most likely still present on some level, is that a horrible idea?

I've read these guys are easy targets for ich, and I would hate for A) him to be harmed and B) the issue kicking off a major outbreak.

PBT is an Acanthurus, and this genus is particularly vulnerable to parasites due to its thin mucous coat. IME; it is unlikely for a PBT to survive (long-term) in an ich management system.

You'd have better luck with a Zebrasoma Tang. Those seem much more ich resistant.

Yeah, it's sobering for me to read and recall years later. I still agree with its sentiments.

Well, I guess I'll just have to pick up a gem tang!

Uh no.

I have a yellow. I might grab a small purple and see how it goes. It's a big tank, maybe they'll coexist ok.
