Question! Tuxedo urchin do be crazy...

Don't expect to see any coralline growing, it's like candy to urchins.

Also if you see it climbing the glass, strip a piece of nori and wedge it between it and the glass, and watch it eat!
Tried. He wore it as a hat, then a shrimp stole it. Went out and bought a nori clip.

I have white sand too, you can see the piles of white balls.
Ok I'll keep an eye out. Do they need to be removed or is it food for something else?

I've got
10 bluelegged hermit crabs
5 Mexican grazing snails
4 cleaner shrimp
2 strawberry conch
1 spikey boi

Not on a clip, actually slide it between the urchin and the glass. Kind of put it right in their mouth sort of thing.

They aren't very smart, so if it shades them from our bright lights, they will use it before eating it.

Yeah I tried that. Got soggy and that's when a shrimp stole it.

May just not have been hungry enough, or was content on eating the film algae on your glass.

Mine rarely surf the glass, usually stick to the rocks. When I do see them glass surfing I feed them, and they always eat the nori.

Yeah that's what I was told. Whatever it's on the glass it's probably looking for food. I also have a very difficult time wedging it. I just tried again and failed horribly

Being new to your tank, it may just be getting the "lay of the land" so to speak. So glass surfing may not mean it's hungry yet.
When I introduced it, I had TONS of diatoms. I put in 4 shrimp, 5 snails, 2 conch, one pokey boi.

I bought external foods just incase they did too good a Job. Holy hell... those Mexican grazing snails devoured the diatoms in like 2 days.

Yo dawg, can I interest you in an urchin for your urchin to clean the green hair algae
Turf algae and it’s the new trend. All of my tuxedos are wearing it. I literally have zero turf algae in my tank now, except for on my tuxedos. I can’t tell if it’s for camouflage or they’re just saving it for later.

So right now, my urchin climbed my glass and I'm currently wondering... how.

How does he attach himself to the glass? I thought that maybe he has a foot by its mouth but then I saw his mouth faced up to the surface (I was feeding him nori) and realized he's gripping the glass with his side.

Does he have feet on all sides of him allowing him to walk however like Spiderman??

Urchins do be crazy...
