Question

At what point does a tank not become new/is established? Because all I keep hearing/seeing from multiple people is “omg your tank is so new or it’s going to crash etc.” and not necessarily about me at least now.

Good question it's like asking how can u tell the difference between canadian mist from the grocery store and 15 year scotch from the liquor store

The whole dilemma is they're both alcohol made outta the same grain the only difference is how long it was left to mature and how it was taken care of while it matures

The same is true for a reef tank... the saying nothing good happens fast is often used amongst reefers in the us which was something stolen by jullian sprung

We should view our tanks as a race car slowly building them up over time to get them ready for a race getting it fined tuned

Much like a car u wont buy everything for it at once was rome wasnt built in a day, but instead will dial it in and tune it into your needs and application over time

Look at it this way quality in quality out

And along as you take the 80 / 20 approach ittl work out for you

@AydenLincoln The tank doesn't become mature ... YOU do.

When you start to grasp some fundamental concepts then what you can get away with a tank increases dramatically.

I wouldn't worry what people think. I would just focus on the lessons that the tank will naturally teach you. At some point YOU won't be new. :)
Very interesting view. Thank you!☺️ Absolutely we are all learning no one knows everything and there’s multiple ways to be successful in this hobby.

Do you plan on adding corals in the future? If so which ones were you thinking?
I do have 3 very happy corals. A blue ridge, zoanthid, and gsp! I can’t wait for Reef-A-Palooza in a few months to get more.☺️

Fully established is a few short months, but safe is when your numbers remain stable for extended period

But generally when people say reach maturity what do they mean

They mean your tank has biogeochemical cycled

A fish tank is called a system 7 things make up a system we have mechanical filtration(hardware) biological filtration(rocks substrate) chemical filteration( gfo, bottles etc) rock, then substrate and microfauna

All make a system, a fish tank is a sterile barren tank where only a fish lives
A system is rich Life and is nutrient rich

When nerdy whiteboys that are trying to baffle u with brilliance and try to impress with meaningless jargon actually mean by having a mature tank is

That u go through your first nitrogen cycle and ammonia reads 0 then it's safe to put coral usually around 3 weeks to 1 month to add corals and invert

Idc what anyone says along as you're using a decent salt and its properly mixed to 1.025 and u4 using quick start or biospira as nitrifying bacteria

Fish can be added in 72 hours if you're experienced without burning them up

Alot of misconceptions misinformation

Best thing to do when staring out kiss

10% daily 25% biweekly 35% weekly water change per volume of water and it will eliminate the need to dose it's all a numbers game and where you're numbers are at and how much free time you have

If u got a nano tank and keep up on wc u should be fine that's what messes alot of begginers up reading too much, not manually removing detritus then playing with bottles and over doing it thinking they have a problem

Bam then u got a problem
High nutes, ph imbalance, cal mag deficient water algae bloom

Just keep it simple and if u do go for bottles try all for reef instead of 3 part dosing stay away from aminos as a beginner aswell as reefroids and pellets food. Go for something like frozen mysis and spirulina instead

It's basically all the question I've ever had and still have and I often consult this playlist I made a long time ago and refer many beginners to the playlist

As it gives u the how and y and the insight behind y we do certain things
