I'm looking to get a monster tank for next year but was thinking if making one instead. If I order large pieces of acrylic, is it difficult to bond together? Same with glass, is one easier than the other? Anyone with experiences?

I like acrylic because if it is done right it makes one piece without seams to leak. Glass & silicone stick together but don't bond, so those seams are a potential source of leaks.

People who work with acrylic or glass all the time find them easy to work with and they can make the seams (or bonds) look nice. I have made glass tanks when I was younger, and I have made acrylic boxes that did not look as nice as a professional would do. Not even close. If you are handy you could probably make a glass or acrylic box without too much difficulty.

I would highly recommend that you pay the glass or acrylic supplier to cut the material to size for you. Large cuts are made on tables designed to produce square pieces that are difficult (for me impossible) to make at home. Gl

Someone just told me about plywood tanks? How do those work out? Anyone with experiences?

Its like PVC plumbing- Special resin glue required, and once the two sections are mated- Not Coming apart !!

I’ve had both and prefer glass due to its resistance to scratching. I made an acrylic 75 gallon from sheets I bought and cut everything to size myself. It turned out great but I took a while to get it put together. I was really patient on getting the right cuts and joints
