Questions about dosing

My tank is about to turn a year old and decided to get my alk checked today at my lfs come to find out that my corals have been using a lot and it’s extremely low. The owner recommended when I got payed to get b ionic and start dosing daily and check it within a few days. He was guessing at 5ml daily. Oh my alk was 4.4

What’s our thoughts on brining it up slowly

Don’t you just love surprises! I don’t in my reef tank but that happens to all of us !
What type of corals ? Is it well stocked ? What size tank do you have ?
Last time you done a water change and how often do you do water changes ?
Did you check your magnesium and calcium levels as well?
I use 2 part b ionic for the past year . Works great ! You can only bring up you alk I think 1 Dkh per day when dosing not to stress your coral so I would calculate using some online calculators for dosing 2 part . I’ve never had alk that low so Maybe someone else can chime in as well..

I have never had my Alk drop that low, but like @AdamB mentioned, raise it up slowly! I would recommend raising it up to where you want it, and then take a day or two and don’t dose to see how much your tank consumes. Make sure you are testing at the same time every 24 hours to know exactly what your uptake is. Then dose accordingly! Make sure when you are dosing at first test routinely to make sure nothing is going crazy!

You might look at Randys article on using baked baking soda. It darn cheap and it works. You only need the alk part if calcium is ok.
