hello everyone! I've done a lot of research on fragging Toadstool corals, but I still have a few questions...

1. How big should a toadstool be to frag it? Mine is currently 3" in diameter, and I want to frag it, but I feel like that's too small...

2. How large should each frag piece be for best chance of survival?

3. Can I cut the coral in the tank, or should I take it out?

4. I have a 12 gallon nano cube. I read that toadstools can release toxins when cut. Is my system too small to handle these toxins? I run an excess amount of carbon and purigen...

Just make it simple and cut it in half out of the tank with a sharp cutting instrument. Rinse in display water and return to tank. You can tie them to a rock to attach, or place the frag in a bowl of rubble in a low flow area of the tank. I have used tooth picks in the past. Run some new charcoal, they slime a lot.

Thanks for the quick reply! How hardy are they? Instead of cutting in half, I just wanted to cut a small piece of the crown, so that if something went wrong at least the parent would make it. Do you think mine (3" diameter) is large enough to cut a chunk out of the crown?
