I have a 125 gallon main tank,I have a 110 tank that I want to make into a refugium
Any sugestions on Protien skimers, and Ro systems,
And what Salt/Algae/and Live rock should I buy for a new setup ?

use the same salt as for your dt same rock you would put in your dt and same substrate as your dt. use the same ro/di water you use for your dt as well skimmer isnt needed. as far as algae go with chaeto, caulerpa, gracialara, turtle grass, halmidea there is alot to choose from. is your fuge gonna connect to your dt. if so go with chaeto and caulerpa for there nutrient exporting factors

Vertex, Reef Octopus, and Skimz are all great skimmers. BRS RO/DI systems are good for the money, but there are better. Like before use the same salt and rock as in display. Algae I prefer caulerpa because chaeto is a pain to deal with IMO

Welcome to the forum! It would be perfect to have a 110g refugium on a 125g tank! From the way you worded your question it makes me think that you aren't planning on tying them in together. One thing you need to do is to make sure you match the salinity and temp with adding that much water all at once.

I am using the typhoon III RODI unit from air water & ice. I have been using it for 7 months now and this week was the first time I replaced the filters. My tap water is 92 though. I like this RODI because it is all connected. There isn't a separate DI or anything like the ones from BRS.

I like the RO/DI units from BRS. Reef Octopus skimmers are pretty good. Salt, I would get instant ocean. Algae, chaeto. Rock, I would get 75-100 lbs of dry rock from BRS and 25 live rock/base rock from a reputable store. Good luck with the build. We need pics!!

All good suggestions. Love my octopus skimmers. The RO/DI units from brs are surprisingly nice. I was a little skeptical at first but after installing one for someone I really like them. The one i installed had a membrane flush, a pressure gauge (going into the membrane) and a dual tds meter one before the di and one after the di so you can see the performance of the filters prior to the di. It is definitely a good buy in my opinion.

TYVM for your help---First I was going to just set up the 110 refugium--To get my feet wet ( so to speak )--LOL--Then add the 125 dt later--Is this a good idea or not ?
