Planning to upgrade my 200xl to peninsula 500

Question #1 ROCK

Idea #1 buy rocks that are submerged in water at LFS and bring them home right when I’m doing the upgrade

idea #2 save some money and buy the purple rocks completely dry and cycle ahead of time myself

FYI: I am adding my already cycled rocks from old tank

question #2 QUARANTINE

if I plan to QT all fish but not the coral or hermits, snails etc pointless.

currently my fish are disease free (for 6 months) I freshwater dipped and used hydro plex after QT examining for 20-30days

If I do decide to quarantine , 45d fallow tank and 30d copper in QT tank a good plan?

Rocks I would go with some from kp or gulfliverock.com

Flow I always recommend jebao. 4 for the price of 1 MP and you can actually change direction.

I did 2 RW 45s vertical on each side of my overflow on my peninsula 500, SicceSdc 9 for the return with the twin vivid aquatics random flow generators. At 75% I get good flow on the opposite end and the 45s cover everything else at about 80%.

From what I’ve heard, as long as you keep the tank temp high enough, your QT plan should be fine.

45 day (minimum) fallow at 81F (or higher) for the tank, 30 day therapeutic copper and two week observation post copper for the fish, and a fishless QT for literally everything else (probably at standard reef temps for 72-76 days just to be safe) is - to my knowledge - pretty much the hobby gold standard for biosecurity at the moment.

Statistically speaking, it’s unlikely to be pointless, but it may prove to be so. What I mean by that is the odds of inverts, corals, macro, etc. bringing in a fish disease (such as ich) are very slim, but not zero. So, QT of just your fish is still a decent level of protection (not perfect, but still good).

If you want to basically guarantee (as close as you possibly can) that you won’t have problems, fishless QT of inverts, macro, etc. is recommended. It’s still not perfect, but it’s pretty close.
