questions for those with rimless tanks

I got mine off eBay, it was brand new.

Like others have said, yes fish will jump no matter what kind of tank but might be more prevalent in a rimless. I built a BRS top on my previous tank but I felt it was too small of a mesh (1/4"). I went with a 1/2" bird netting on my new tank and I like it a whole lot better.

The opening in the bird netting is too large. Unless you just have large fish, don't be surprised if you find dried fish laying on top of the screen. I tried it for the same reason that you did, but it was almost as bad as not having a cover at all. Good luck.

I have a 75g and to me the mesh top takes away from the appeal. I dont stock jumpers though. When a snail gets to high he realizes hes out the water and just falls back down. Havent had anything escape in the year ive had it. I lose close to a gallon a day due to evaporation. I love it though and wouldnt trade it for a non rimless.

I have a 50g rimless from SCA. I really like the setup. I don't care for the stand but that can be made custom if you choose.

During the summer I lose about half a gallon a day. Now that it is winter I'm loosing about a gallon a day. Not a big deal if you have an ATO though.

I don't have a net over the tank, I think it takes away from the look. That said I only have a clown fish in there right now. I've never had a snail escape. I don't have an issue with a water line but I do clean the glass weekly. No issues with salt creep aside from the normal.

What kind of fish made it through the screen? All my fish are larger than the small 1/2" opening. And I wouldn't say I have large fish.

What brand and size is your tank?
Any photos?
I have an aqua top 8 gallon at the moment, they are now making larger ones that I would love to have but in the mean time because I could just not wait I bought a deep blue that has the black around the top I might take it off for a rimless. Check out marine depot they carry them and they were on sale for the holidays. Who knows I might buy one anyway.

Wrasses and blennies. I lost several fish using the bird netting material. Switched to the BRS 1/4" and have had zero losses since then. Just a word of caution. If it works for you, then fine. But for others considering using this material, I would advise against it.
